1. Do you agree with the author’s statement that science, including sociology, cannot answer questions of morality? Why or why not?

2. It is valuable to think about how the theoretical perspectives can be applied to socially problematic issues. Examine the issue of Social Security in the United States and briefly explain how the three theoretical perspectives (Functionalism, Conflict and Symbolic Interaction) can be applied to understand the issue. Discuss which perspective you agree with most and the reason for this view.

Chapter 3

3. Why do you believe prostitution is illegal but pornography is legal? Both are sex for “sale”. Make sure to tie at least two theories (Functionalism, Conflict, Symbolic Interaction, or Feminism) into your explanation. Do you believe both should be legal, neither or only pornography?
