School Wide Development Plan

Research indicates teachers are the most influential factor on student achievement and school leadership is the second most influential factor (Pannell et al., 2016). As educators, our primary responsibility is to positively impact student achievement. Teachers must provide high-quality instruction to ensure every student maximizes their potential for academic growth. One key way district and school leaders play an integral role in the success of teachers and students is by the development of data-driven professional development plans to ensure teachers receive relevant training to:

Meet school and district goals and objectives
Increase capacity in areas of weakness and areas of strength
For this assignment, you will:

Review your district and school professional development or professional plans to identify areas of alignment and misalignment to the ten principles of effective professional development found in Chapter 8 of your textbook (p. 233 for hard copy).

Discuss with a campus administrator, the process your school uses to develop a school-wide professional development plan and the alignment and misalignments you have discovered.

With the help of a campus administrator, develop a professional development (PD) plan that aligns with these ten principles using the school’s vision, mission, and most recent assessment data.

Considerations you should make and report include:

How the activity(ies) support the realization of the campus vision
How the PD furthers accomplishment of the mission
How the PD addresses deficiencies revealed in the data
Cost(s) of the PD
Appropriate timeline for the PD
Key figures needed to make the PD happen
Participants (ranked in order of importance) in PD activity(ies)

There is no required template for your PD plan. I suggest the use of a table to provide a quick and easily readable visual and to ensure you address all necessary components; however, if your cooperating administrator has another preferred format, feel free to use it.
