For each of the following provide a detailed essay using material from class lectures, required readings and your own research. Make sure that your answer follows a logical sequence that addresses the specific questions being asked. Besides answering the questions I am looking for you to develop ideas and to introduce interesting examples to illustrate your points and ideas.

1. What is science? How is science different from pseudo-science? Give a detailed example.

2. What is technology? Is it more than just tool-making and machines? What are the implications of technology for the human body and society? Use examples to develop your answer.

3. One of the central assumptions of the social studies of science approach is that science is not “above” the social, in some pure and objective realm, untouched by socio-cultural processes, but rather it is immersed in the social. If this is the case then how are social processes implicated in the production of scientific knowledge? Develop your answer through a specific example as a way to highlight this dynamic in detail.
