Social Psychology Written Assignment Outline

Based on what you have learned in the course, develop a research proposal to empirically test
a social psychological phenomenon. You will formulate an experimental research question,
articulate a hypothesis based on social psychological theory, and describe methods to test your
hypothesis.
In this outline, you will briefly indicate:
1. Research Question. Indicate the research question that you are designing an empirical
research study to answer. This should be reported as succinctly as possible and include
reference to your independent and dependent variable. This question should be relevant to the
social psychology material covered in the course. (1 mark)
2. Research Hypothesis. What do you think will happen in your study? This hypothesis should
clearly state the outcome you expect from your study. It should reference both your independent
and dependent variables and indicated the expected relation between your variables. (2 marks)
3. Research Methodology. Indicate (1) the independent variable (i.e., the variable that is being
manipulated) and how you will manipulate the independent variable (i.e., what will your
conditions/levels be) and (2) the dependent variable (i.e., the outcome variable you are
measuring) and how you will measure your dependent variable (e.g., what scale will you use).
