Compare how these two different authors handle one (or more) similar theme(s). Here is an example of a theme that runs through both Lost in Place and Bone Black: “Honesty does not always win.”

The common theme should be one that really interests you. You’ll be writing a lot about it.

Make sure you are using specific examples and brief, direct quotes from the books to support your assertions, and cite them according to MLA guidelines, but do not rely on quotes to do your thinking for you. Show that you have read the material carefully and understand it on your own.

Throughout your paper, find ways to talk about both books. Connect your thinking.

Your paper should tell us about one or more of these questions: What has been memorable to you about the way the two authors have expressed this theme (or themes). Is there a thought you would like to express regarding a main difference in the way they handled the theme or a main similarity in the way they handled it? Does the theme you have looked at regarding these two books portray an important human problem? What implications does looking at this theme have for our own time?
