This assignment serves to sharpen your critical thinking skills by helping you
differentiate between factual/evidence-based statements and those that are based on
assumptions.
Identify one statement that is factual/evidence based. State what the president is
arguing and find one empirical study that supports this claim. If the president is
highlighting a problem, offer a practical solution. If the president is identifying the
success of a program or piece of legislation, state why this is good (or bad, depending
on your views) for the nation. (Approximately a page and a half)
Next, identify one statement that is not factual/supported with evidence and based on
assumptions. Find an empirical study that disproves this statement. Explain why the
president’s statement is misleading and any potential consequences. (Approximately a
page and a half)
Your submission must be a minimum of three full pages and should not exceed four full
pages. Anything under three pages will not be accepted.
You must properly cite your sources. Papers should be 12 point, Times New Roman
Font, 1”margins, and double spaced.
