This assignment assesses your understanding of active listening skills and motivational interviewing and how to use those skills in practice. Complete and submit the assignment using APA formatting (include a title page and a references page).

Review pages 101 – 103 in the manual. Read the first two scenarios that provide the three levels of empathic responses. After the two examples with empathic responses, you will see four bulleted scenarios with an initial client statement. Pick one of the four scenarios to conduct your interview. Format the interview like the two scenarios on pages 103 and 104. Incorporate appropriate worker responses using empathic responses. In other words, if you were the human services professional, how would you appropriately respond to a client presenting with those situations. As the professional, you need to provide at least five statements or questions to respond to each scenario. Since this is an interview script, you also need to provide the client’s response to each question or statement to demonstrate the flow of the interview. You need to incorporate motivational interviewing techniques in your responses as the professional.

Do not simply provide five statements. This should be modeled like a conversation you would have with a client. The interview script should be 750 – 1,000 words in length.
