The purpose of the virtual field excursions is to provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of what instructional leadership within diverse contexts and to utilize these experiences in their inquiry-based final project as well as compare these lived realities with scholars in the field. Students will compare practices on their campuses to those experienced in the field (i.e., vision/mission, policies, pedagogical practices, and instructional coaching). Students will also apply what they learned from the texts to their experiences in the field to focus specifically on instructional practices/policies that empower those who live on the margins due to race, class, native language, religion, gender, sexual identity, and ability (mental and physical).
QUESTIONS TO ASK DURING EACH VIRTUAL CONVERSATIONS WITH INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERS:
What is your vision as an instructional leader? What do you value? To what extent do your values align with the work you do as an instructional leader? How do you demonstrate this understanding? How would you describe yourself as an instructional leader? What do you look for in other instructional leaders? Why is this important to you? 2. How are decisions made regarding curriculum and instruction? To what extent is data used to make decisions? What is data? How is it utilized to inform decisions regarding instruction? Please provide an example.
