Writing an Executive Summary

1. Is the executive summary concise and well written? And does it:

3. Identify the problem that needs to be solved? (this should appear in the first or second paragraph)
4. Include a description of the business with the business name, type of business, and solution (this should appear in the first or second paragraph)?
5. Describe the customer target market?
6. Identify the product or service?
7. Identify the value proposition?
8. Identify the competitive advantage and the competitive environment?
9. Describe the go-to-market strategy including channel of distribution, pricing strategy and promotion techniques?
10. Identify the intellectual property and its current status?
11. Identify a proof concept?
12. Identify how the technology will be made (or outsourced), tested, approved, and delivered?
13. Identify a discussion of operations, operational milestones, and their current status?
14. Describe how the company will make money (i.e. the business model)?
15. Show that the business idea fits the team’s distinctive competencies?
16. Describe the basic financial opportunity (revenue and profits expectations)?
17. Identify the amount and type of funding required (loan or equity investment)?
18. Identify when the funding is required?
19. Identify the ROI for the investor, if there is an investor needed?
20. Describe a potential exit (a long term hold is possible if investors are not required or if you can pay back the investors or the bank with income from operations)?
