Writing Assignment # 1

Write a 500-word (two pages, double spaced) Reflection Paper on the Henwood article above which follows these guidelines:
1. Introduction – In your first paragraph you should provide an overview of the article. As a formality, I want you to mention the author’s full name(s) and the full title of the article in this paragraph. Focus on the author’s main idea and not all of the details. DO NOT, HOWEVER, MAKE THE ENTIRE PAPER A SYNOPSIS OF THE ARTICLE.
2. Second Paragraph – Discuss the author’s thesis –that is, what is the author’s point of view, opinion, belief, etc., about the subject matter of the article? Does the author give any indication as to why she (he) feels the way she feels? Is the author’s point of view based on fact (research, statistics) or opinion? (See syllabus for explanation concerning what a thesis statement is.
3. Third and Fourth Paragraph—What is your viewpoint regarding the author’s thesis? Do you agree, disagree or have a neutral position? Defend your point of view using examples from the article and from your own experience. You may use the first person, just do not overuse the word “I”.
4. Last Paragraph — Write a conclusion which summarizes what you have already said and talks about the implications of what the author has discussed for the future.
